Tag - Not it!
Child's Play x2 | October 24File this under, are you freakin’ kidding me?
What has the world come to when you can not longer play tag at school because schools are afraid of getting sued. What’s next? Pencil sharpeners will be outlawed for fear of causing sharp instruments that can cause bodily harm - meaning all kids will have to learn to write with lumps of charcoal or fat Crayons.
And while we’re at it, I bet the dust from chalk can cause horrific lung damage if left unchecked so why don’t we ban all chalk boards from schools? Or how about skipping determining the diameter of a circle because a child could risk serious injury with a compass while sneezing at an inopportune time. And don’t even get me started on preventing all teachers from wearing noxious perfume. I remember many a day coughing and choking on the sweet floral scent of my elementary school teachers. I wonder if the statute of limitations has expired.
Excuse me while I call my lawyer.

This reminds me of the Simpsons, when Bart is sent to a remedial class that uses circles of paper.
My kindergartner just got in trouble for talking in the lunchroom. The lunchroom? Where the hell are they supposed to talk? One day he’ll grow up, get a suit and an office, have to go to a lunch meeting, but won’t talk. And then he’ll lose whatever deal it is he’s working on. All because of kindergarten. Thanks a hell of a lot, lunchroom monitor!
Wow! I thought my small town in Canada was crazy to ban hockey sticks in grade school. I mean some kids lost eyes and other theets but that’s hockey!
They haven’t removed tag yet. Maybed they should outlaw running.. that is where the real problem is. Walking tag, kids would speed walk like in the Olympics when it seems the guy is walking but really needs to go to the bathroom!
Allright enough nonsense i’m out.
As long as kids can still smoke cigarettes and have oral sex on the school bus everything will be okay.
As a school administrator, I can tell you that we are all out of control about school. However, it includes parents.
Parents of students who fall and get hurt on the playground sue the schools because they believe their children are improperly supervised. However, short of being Superman you can’t possibly prevent all falls.
The attorney and insurer for your school recommends a ban on anything that might possibly trigger a lawsuit, a legal battle, or simply some bad press.
This is why blogging and other extraordinary tech tools will not be allowed in schools. No one wants to have a MySpace issue on their campus. Heaven forbid anyone might encourage students to take responsibility for their actions or the actions of their children.
Kids get hurt. Kids screw up. Kids will be kids. I’m not against common sense discipline. A child playing football will, at times, get hurt. We educators seem to have forgotten how we were taught by our own parents:
“The pot is hot. Don’t touch”
“What’s hot?”
“Touch the pot.”
“Ow.”
“See? You’ll never do that again, right?”
This is how we learned to take responsibility and accept counsel. It’ll only happen once or twice. Then they’ll learn. The more we ban, the less they have to self-manage.
