The Death of a Daughter
Genuine | August 17
One thing in this is clear, the JonBenet Ramsey case has been a media feeding frenzy. Unless you have been hiking in the Andes, you have probably heard that John Mark Karr has been arrested in the killing of JonBenet Ramsey. I have been trying to reason with myself most of the day about my feelings for this arrest.
I must admit I too had cast an “umbrella of suspicion” over the parents that they may have somehow been involved in her death. There are still many questions about this case that I have as it relates to the new evidence. I’m sure that the likes of an O.J. Simpson trial or others is in store for us. Unlike that poor little girl, this is clearly a story that will never die.
My own daughter is 6 and I cannot imagine what it would be like to lose her in such a tragedy. I would be horrified if somehow the media and others made pronouncements about my involvement. We live in a cynical world and our thoughts are always turned to those cynical ideas about who is to blame for the tragic events of that December morning in 1996. Until I hear more evidence I cannot and will not rush to judgment. This is the smartest thing I have heard spoken by JonBenet’s father since this whole nightmare began.
It’s time for the discussion to commence. I think we are about to hear many theories and conjecture about this case. What do you think? Did he do it? Am I the only one that sees a scenario like in Veronica Mars?

I think because of the whole parent/pagent thing, it was easy to think the parents had something to do with it. I know I did in the beginning. It just seemed so weird, they seemed like suspects and the evidence seemed planted. Also I just couldn’t understand how they would parade their daughter around dressed up like a little adult.
However, I know pervs like Karr, do things that don’t make sense. And in this world of Law and Order and CSI and everything, criminals are becoming smarter. So, I guess my answer is yes, I think he did it. I feel bad for JonBenet’s mother for dying without knowing. That must have been so hard for her to never know what happened to her daughter.
Melissa she may have tipped them off to the suspect. She did know of Karr in June when she died. Not closure, but she at least knew that something was happening.
What scares me more than anything is that if the parents weren’t involved then someone broke into the house, took the girl from her bedroom brought her downstairs, assaulted and killed her, then wrote a 3 page note, all while the parents slept.
That scares the LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of me. I don’t know about most parents, but I hear everything in the middle of the night. The cat so much as sneezes, and I’m awake.
Putting lipstick on a 6-year old freaks me out. It seems like a surefire way to make your daughter a target for weirdos and perverts.
I think that that this Karr guy is a wack-a-do and that he did NOT kill JonBenet. I am sure he has his reasons for claming that he did but again this guys seems to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
I am thinking along the same lines as William. This weirdo has problems, and clearly WANTS to be linked to this case, for noteriety or something, but he did NOT do it (I do not believe).
In my not so humble opinion, I think the killer died of cancer last year. Why? As MaMa Raine points out, the “facts” of this case just do not fit.
Of course, if I found myself in the same situation, even if I were NOT guilty, I would certainly feel RESPONSIBLE. In the very least, for not doing my basic parental job of protecting my child. That would be a failure, I doubt I could overcome.
