Your Song
Hygiene Chronicles | July 22We recently went on vacation after a business trip and had the good fortune of meeing up with a co-worker and her husband. The four of us took part in a day of snorkling off the coast of Kauai. Not knowing her very well, we all spent quite a bit of time talking (in between being underwater, of course).
We were comparing restaurants on the island and they talked highly about one they had dined at the previous night. “The food was delicious, the service great and they even played our song while we were there,” my coworker said.
“What’s your song?” we asked. The reply was something by that French Canadian, and temporarily Las Vegas, tart so I won’t go any further than that. It seems they had flet it would make a great wedding song. (Whatever.)
With that, they asked us if we had a song. Before I could reply that my partner and I never really had a commitment ceremony, he blurts out, “To Be With You by Mr. Big.”
To say the three of us sat there shocked with mouths wide open would be an understatement.
“Like hell it is,” I replied and shot him that glance that politely but firmly indicated you-must-be-referring-to-some-other-spouse. Almost 15 years of being together and my life is NOT summed up by Mr. Big. Sure, it was on some mixed tape we owned years ago, but no way would that be ‘our song.’
My friend quickly recovered the conversation and responded, “Well it’s high time you both had a song.” We’d better, because right now it’s Every Rose Has its Thorn.
What’s your song?

BIYM and I have several, most by Peter Gabriel. Had I known her in high school, I would have held the boombox high and cranked “In Your Eyes.”
Uhh, ironically, Every Rose Has its Thorn *is* one of our songs..
“So Right” by Dave Matthews Band. Knew it from the first time I heard it..
Actually, music is one factor that might lead to divorce. We met in a phase when I was into country rock but that’s something I now tend to keep closeted. We can occassionally agree on something like Portishead or Richard Ashcroft but overall it’s a good thing the car radio doesn’t work.
“Something So Right” by Paul Simon.
But I *totally* loved that Mr. Big song. Brings back such memories (sniff sniff)!!
“I’ll Be Your Lover, Too” by Van Morrison. Good, sappy, stuff.
“Beloved One” Ben Harper. We had a good friend who sounded just like him play the live version on guitar and sing for our processional at our wedding. Awwwww…
My husband and I couldn’t decide on a song for our first dance at our wedding so when we walked into the reception the DJ asked me what I wanted. The first song that came to mind was “I do” by Paul Brandt. So that’s our song and you know what? I like it {:o) He couldn’t tell you what our song was though if his life depended on it haha.
“When I’m With You” by Sheriff
I hate admitting this, but our wedding song was “Silver, Blue & Gold” by Bad Company. Don’t ask. Long ass story.
